New USDOT number

Register your company with FMCSA and get your USDOT number, plus operating authority if you haul for hire across state lines.

Who needs it: Companies that run commercial vehicles across state lines: trucks over 10,001 lb, vehicles that carry 9 or more passengers for pay or 16 or more in total, or placarded hazardous materials. Some states also require it for intrastate carriers.
When: Before the first trip. Registering also starts your New Entrant period, with a safety audit in the first 12 months.
What we need from you: EIN or SSN, legal company name and address, the company officers, type of operation and cargo, and the number of trucks and drivers.
If you skip it: Running without a USDOT number means an out-of-service order and a fine at the first roadside inspection.
